Mad Rubber Formula #5: The optimal balance between Sticky and Hard, this top secret formula is light years ahead of any other rubber on the market. It is used on the hooking rim of our DDS sole as well as our traditional flat soled shoes.
While most climbing shoes use a convex sole with a single hardness rubber, the Patented Hooker Dual Density System (DDS) rises above, combining our Dual Density System that improves edging capabilities with the concave shape to increases surface area when smearing. Yet another Mad Rock first, putting science on your feet.
We have molded the heel cup in a 3-D shape to eliminate heel slippage and added a few teeth for better heel hooking capabilities. Now your climbing shoe fits like a glove and hooks like a claw. Because heel hooking does not require much weight, we have used our softer Mad Rubber Formula #3 compound for better smearing. By not using the conventional method of gluing two one-dimensional pieces of rubber together, we have not only eliminated de-lamination problems, but also created the best fitting heel cup on the market today.
The ultimate climbing shoe would allow for friction on all surfaces. By placing the 3-D molded Ribbed Power upper on the top of the shoe we are getting closer to this ultimate shoe. The hooking teeth assist the climber with toe hooks and the vent holes help to keep the shoe breathing. Constructed using our ultra sticky Mad Rubber Formula #3.
A Mad Rock design first. Moving the shoe closure system to the side allows for greater surface area coverage of Mad Rubber on the top of the shoe, making for a better fit and better performance.
How many first dates have been ruined because of your smelly climbing shoes? Putting friction aside for a moment we focused on this problem and came up with a great solution. X-static fabric has silver fiber woven into it. The silver acts as a antimicrobial inihibitor that eliminates smell and helps regulate heat and cold.
Keeping your laces tied can be a hassle. New for 2005 we are putting our new Lockdown laces on our approach shoes. By corrugating the ends of the laces the knot is more likely to stay put.
